SAMUEL VINCENT
Samuel Vincent has been a bassist and educator performing music for the last 20 years. He graduated from QUT in 1997 with a Bmus in classical Double Bass, studying under Robert Davidson. In 1998, he was the musical director of Belvoir Street Theatres' "After China" and co-devised and performed in the children's show "Ukelele Mekulele", which found a home at the Sydney Opera House. In 2005 he joined the gypsy ensemble Doch, with whom he has toured nationally and internationally and appeared on their critically acclaimed albums: 'This Drink This Moon' and 'Bride In A Red Dress. Samuel is much in demand as a freelance musician. He has appeared with such acts as Miguel, Scat, Australian Girls Choir, and the Queensland Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as performers such as Tommy Emanuel, Marina Pryor, Don Burrows, Tom Burlinson, James Morrison, Frank Bennet and Meagan Washington. Samuel performs with the renowned contemporary jazz outfit Trichotomy and early jazz ensemble Laique.
Samuel is one half of the highly successful duo - Tyrone and Lesley (David Megarrity and Samuel Vincent). Tyrone and Lesley create songs on the ukulele, double bass and U-bass, all instruments that must be played close to the heart. The first meeting in 2000 in the show Ukulele Mekulele which took them to the Sydney Opera House; they've made music ever since, having released five albums: Ukulele Heart (2012), Bear with Me (2013), the soundtrack to the hit show of the same name, Gentlemen Songsters (2014) Baubles: A Ukulele Christmas (2015) and OPTIMISM (2017). With one foot on the music stage and the other on the theatrical stage, they've performed to many audiences of large and tiny kinds.
Finalists in the 2012 and 2013 Queensland Music Awards for their songwriting, they've played at the Sydney Opera House, Queensland Performing Arts Centre, Melbourne Recital Centre, The Adelaide Festival Centre and many events, including the New Zealand International Ukulele Festival, Melbourne Ukulele Festival, Cairns Ukulele Festival, Spruce, Blue Mountains Ukulele Festival, the Brisbane Festival, Perth's Awesome Festival, the UK's Grand Northern.
